first meeting
sept, 1 st 2008
we talked about:
1. The rules of the class (the marking system, the equipments that the student have to bring, and some rules that student have to obey)
2. The references (we can find it from lpp.uns.ac.id and list3uns.blogspot.com)
3. Students have to make a weekly journal on this blog.
4. The lecture also has given the material for the next meeting. It is a discussion which title is TV : HONEY or POISON?

We started the Listening class with an introduction about the rules of the class.
Then, we got an information about the assignment and the material for the next week.
We also got an explanation about this blog where we can share all about Listening Class together.

Hello sir...
Just want to review your class today. It was fun to talk about media since I'm interested in it too. I can't deny that TV provides so many information in this global era, but I also can't deny that TV has changed some of our society in a negative way.I think V chip can be very useful to give information about harmful programs. I have fun today, the class was not too serious but i learned a lot about the topic and conversation by native presenter.
O.. ya.. today you asked us to make a record of our opinion about TV program, and we'll hear it together next meeting.
I hope you won't give us many assignments in this Ramadhan month...hehehe

list3 first meeting:INTRODUCTION:Mr Depe hadn't given any material yet,he gave us some rules of the game(lecture).We went home earlier and Mr Depe gave us next week's material.
second meeting: we were discussing about the advantages and disadvantages of watching any program on TV .Mr Depe showed any pictures of popular TV program such as CNN News,Spongesbob Squarepant,etc.He asked us what kind of program that we like most.Mot of us like News program on Metro TV.Some of us like either entertainment and new program.
We talked about the using of V-chip in order to rate all program on TV.this action is taken in order to reduce any violences,sex action on TV that nowadays is getting worse.As this issues concerned with all peoples ,it has already become controvertion.Hopefully we can do it as well as Canadian do.
Mr Depe also gave us any exercise in order to increase our listening ability.
He then gave us homework to be done....

the second meeting we have discussed about the advantages and disadvantages of watching Indonesian television.Actually television's programmes give us much entertainments, news, knowledges and informations.But,on the other hand, the television's programme give some bad effect especially for children. I think it's still be contradictory.Because,we cannot claim that televisionis is good or television is bad. Discuss about those problem,we must be wisely to take a good solution to resolve it. In Canada,there is a solution whih is called V-chip/rating system. In my opinion, those solution will be successfull depend on the user.I think the best solution is parent must accompany their children to watching the television's programme.Mr.DP, I want to ask you two questios:in your opinion, what 's the good channel in Indonesia?does you always accompany your children when they are watching television's programme?I think that's all,thanks for reading my weekly journal.See you later...

2nd meetings of listening
We disscussed about TV program.TV has a lot of program such as entertainment(movie,music,talkshow,infotainment,etc)and news.
We shared about the rating system/v-chip which already obligated by goverment in USA and Canada.The goverment released this rule in order to minimalize violence,sex,and strong language on TV which can be watched by children.But the TV industry worries this system will have impact towards
in the first meeting,just for introduction about what we are going to learn during the semester.
In the second meeting we discussed about V-chip and the adventages and the disadventages of it.
In that activity we are encouraged to predict and to speculate that case,so nice to have listening class because we not only listen but also can improve our vocabularies and terms.

Actually, I couldn't come on the first meeting of listening class so I can't give a comment about the first meeting.
On the second meeting, we discussed about television program.
I really enjoyed when you taught us..
You're communicative.
Television programs give some advantages and disadvantages.
It often gives bad influences to the kids but it can entertain and educate us.
Ehm...we also got task from you to record our comment about television program we watch and we will submit it on the next meeting.

I'm sorry late, Sir
I was not so feel great in the first class because we only discussed about the rules, the equipment that I have to bring in this class and your blog address of speaking class that day. Well actually this is the first time I get listening class that I have to make weekly journal. well Sir is it ok if I make the journal for once two weeks? because I sometime haven't enough money to go to internet cafe! heheh...

we haven't got anything,
2nd meeting was the turning off the light at that night. so we couldn't use the lab.
unfortunately, then we moved to the else class with our seniors and discussed about linguistic.
so many seniors there were.
may the next meeting we'll get better.
Second meeting of listening3.
We discussed about tv programs which contain sex n violence on it.
It's an interesting topic since tv has been great influence to people. And it has become controvercial topic in this country n abroad...
We listened to the audio that mr.dp has. In the beginning i couldnt catch what Rick Marin remarked about v-chip. It's so complicated in my ears.
Is it the audio or my listening skill is reducing?
It's an emergency if my ability is reducing...
I think i'll have to increase it consecutively. Hope i will get the ability back on me.
Overall, everything is okay and i understand what the topic is.

in the last meeting we talked about tv programs..
well,,the tv program not only give us the bad effect but also the good effect. however, most of us think that the negative effects always bigger than the positive ones. personnaly,,i think that whether good or not the effect is depend on ourself. if we can filter what we get from the tv programs, it will be okey to watch whatever we want to watch.so the important thing is how we filter and choose. we adult enough to understand what the best...

For the third meeting,I brought my cassete where i recorded my comment about the tv programme i used to watch.We plated and listened it together but just for some of us.
We also discussed about the problem we have in listening.Most of us have the problem with the speed of onversation and the vocabulary.
For next meeting we are required to learn the other topic with the other conversation.

i often nervous when joining listening subject because sometime i couldn't undesrtand what the native speaker said.
so, i need to listen carefully. last semester i got And i hope too for this semester.
the most problem to me is actually i couldn't enjoy to study in the afternoon-night. but i can't say nothing because i'm non regular student.
well, i will try to enjoy it until i graduate.

last meeting we talk about V-chip.i'm sure that everybody already knew what V-chip is...
after the 3rd meeting,i think it a good idea to have V-chip in Indonesia, because it can help parents to control the TV program that their children will watch. Now days Indonesian women also very busy (even though still have not as busy as American Or Canadian)so they have a little time to care their children. and V-chip can give them at least a little help. But, it is possible to have V-chip in In Indonesia?
yeah actually, I'm getting bored with Indonesian TV program...
thanks mr DEPE, you have made listening (still) is my favorite subject so far..

the third meeting we just played some recorder of our homework and continue the material of listening.
the fourth meeting we have listened the interview between David Alpern with Ricard Heffner , the professor of communication and public policy at Rutgers University. Heffner has supported movie rating because:
1.there is no intermediatery box office
2.the children can undo their parent's programme
3.parent not preside the operation of v-chip
