Almost everybody knows that TV brings some bad effects together with the benefits it offers. America has been trying to install V-chip to make ratings for TV programs. Do you believe this will work?
Anyway, please think of TV program you like best. Please tell others why you like it, and whether or not the program will give negative effect to the society, especially the children.

i guess V-Chip is not working on,parents still have an important role to handle their children on watching TV.But why we only talking about American?can we sometimes disscuss about Indonesian TV's programs too?

LAst meeting we talked about the advantages and disadvantages of watching TV programs...Well, it is an interesting topic for me. In one side, TV programs give us entertainments and informations even knowledges... But on the other hand, some TV programs explore about violence or even sex which are very harmful for teenagers or kids...
One way to protect kids from this harmful TV shows is using V-Chip....
I agree with Indang J that V-Chip is not promising... Kids are not adult who knows whether the TV program that they watch is save or not... Although it will block out some TV programs, they still need their parents to accompany them while watching TV...The problem is that not only some TV shows which harmful for children, some TV advertisements also explore strong languages or even bad activities...
So I think V chip one way to solve this problem but not the best way...Parents should accompany their kids when they watch TV, so not only get an entertainment but kids will also get the moral messages of the shows....
we also heard a record of American radio broadcaster.. It was very fun...But I found some difficulties... The native speaker speak very fast...I never imagine that a radio broadcaster could speak as fast as that... But You repeated the record 3 times more.. It was very helpful... well, I think I need more practises for Listening, because my score of last semester was not as good as my first semester...
Mr. DEPE would you please give me some tips to improve my Listening ability??
And one more question, when you studied in Australia, Did you find some difficulties when you made a conversation with the native speaker?? They speak very fast right??

Thank you for giving interesting topic about V-chip. It's a kind of new information for me. As far as I know about V-chip that has been use in America, I think this program can work successfully if there is a good supervising from the user. I mean, for example if a family who has used TV-Chip in their home want to save their children from the television program which contains violence, criminal, sex, pornography, etc of course the parent must accompany their children when watching TV. Even TV-Chip can block out some TV programs, It only some not all TV programs Which contain violence, criminal, sex, pornography, etc.
I think this program can work successfully if there is a good corporation between the user (parents), the TV station, and the government..
Frankly speaking I like this topic Sir. But I got some difficulties in catching Rick Martin's explanation when you play the audio file last time. I don't know may be my ability of speaking is still what is it hmmff bad!!!hiks... especially in catching fast conversation like listening radio's broadcaster. I need more practice but I don't know how, Sir! hope you can help me..
about your assignment, I'm afraid I can't do it well Sir. because I'm not so interesting in watching TV. I prefer read a newspaper, magazine, any other written informations. so I don't have any special favorite TV shows Sir. but I'll try to do it with my best...

Last week we discussed all about TV Programs...As we know that TV programs have a lot of effects to us, whether it's good or bad.
it gives us the good effect such as education etc, but it also gives the bad effect such as violence, strong language and sex.
I think the most important thing is not the V-Chip, but how parents give an explanation to their children about that.
The parents should accompany and choose the programs that suitable for their children.

we discussed about TV programs which contain sex and violence, also the advantages and disadvantages of it.
it's an interesting topic since TV has been a great influence to people and mushroomed all over the world. The TV programs has become controversial to, not only in Indonesia, but also in abroad.
but, it's all according to us to consider it as advantages or disadvantages, it's up to our choice.
well, nothing is perfect in this world.
TV industry is material-oriented, it doesn't have time to think about moral if we think about money profit, and vice versa.
we listened to the audio recording that Mr. DP has. in the beginning i couldn't catch what Rick Marin remarked about V-Chip using, especially in Canada. it's so complicated in my ears.
is it the audio or my listening ability is reducing...?
it is an emergency if my ability is reducing...

Hello sir....
Yesterday we still met with Rick Marin and talked about V-Chip, but I was not too understand with the speakers said especially the man on the phone.
Well, I think V-Chip can be useful to give information for parents about some unappropriate programs so they can block it out. Yes, it's important too for parents to show their children about programs who are appropriate for them. Parents should guide them while they are watching TV so children will understant the positive value of every programs.
I think Indonesia needs V-Chip too, because today there are many programs in Indonesian TV which explore violence, sex, bad behaviour and lifestyle,etc. Many young people have been influenced by these.
The most important thing is that parents must aware about this problem so they can guide their children when they get information especially from TV since it will influence them very much. V-Chip without parents's role means nothing.

I think that parents is the most important key. they are the one that responsible to guide their children to watch a good tv show. the v-chip is just a tool to help the parents in guiding their children.

third meeting of listening 3...
we listened to the recording today.
ikke, irma and ratna's recording. ikke said that she likes Rinduku Cintaku, Irma likes Spongebob Squarepants, and Ratna likes MotoGP.
We also discussed activity 4, part one, two, and three.
Mr. DP also told us the difficulty that we might encounter in the listening activity. it might be the vocabulary, the speed, etc. but for me, it's about the clearness of the recording.
we can get the points if the recording is in high speed but we played it over and over.
next week we will discuss the next activity and listen to another recording of another interview. i hope it will clear enough to be heard.

I like watching TV so much if I've many spare time in my room. In my opinion, watching TV for me just to refresh my mind only. But, it is has many disanvantages. In TV program, there are many programs which exploite violence, sex, and strong language. it will be a bad influence towards children.
therefore, tv industry should install v-chip in the tv sets.
the v-chip is used to prevent the bad influence for children, since children always immitate what they see, especially in the TV.

We was very surprised when you said that you have reduced the speed of Rick Martin's conversation..( WOW, it was still too fast sir)
But I will always try to improve my listening ability by hearing other records,
